The
Festival is held every year with a theme of enjoying everything
to do with the wind. Simple kite flying to wind powered
sailing craft and even hang gliding and parachuting are
all featured on the day.
Rokkaku is a Japanese tradition of fighting kites where
the contestants are all attempting to break the opposition
kites loose and hopefully be the last kite in the air.
In some of the more serious competitions the contestants
will glue glass particles to the last 2-3 meters of the
kite string to cut more quickly through the other lines.
Obviously this requires quite a deal of skill as the other
flyers have the same goal in mind. |
